We’re living the post-pandemic dream: A year ago, my wife and I moved to an old farmhouse in a remote village.
While we always felt a strong connection to nature and the outdoors, we’re not exactly farmer’s children.
She was born and raised in Berlin, while I spent my childhood in the outskirts of a mid-sized town and most of my adult life in big cities, the last 13 years in Berlin.
We had become interested in what is often lumped in under the umbrella term of ‘alternative lifestyles’. That means we read articles and books and watched documentaries on topics like off-grid living, self-sufficiency, permaculture gardening, and DIY craftsmanship.
Soon we wanted to put all of this into practice, but we still lived in the city, and I had a 9-to-5 office job at a tech company. Home office wasn’t an actual thing yet.
