what a great interview! we were a bunch of kids in berlin discovering the music via "radio massive" and then experiencing it in those semi-illegal clubs like wtf - mostly with mcs wearing camouflage and having long dreads. megashira/later kabuki was one of the first names to pop up. we adored the music, it changed our life in way rock n roll or deep purple did for our parents. further note: I think its really rare to have had the skills to make the music and getting accepted in the post-carribean london scene back then coming from germany. it is almost like gunther schuller recording with bird or monk. furthermore, my friends (some of them making great careers in other electronic genres later) all tried to produce the sound themselves and in the end we all failed. it seems to be much more complicated then bebop.

Thank you for this comment. I've forwarded it to Jan as well, because I think he will be very happy to read this. And I agree – the skills that people like Jan or Photek have in terms of electronic music production remain almost unmatched.
